The Chelsea Flower Show opens tomorrow, and we’ve gathered some of this year’s highlights to show you. As usual, there’s lots to inspire. The feel is less formal this year (with lots of cow parsley!).
Nostalgia, and a tribute to that British pastime, caravanning, with The Caravan Club’s ‘Celebration of Caravanning Garden’ by designer Jo Thompson.
Diarmuid Gavin’s spectacular 80ft Magical Tower Garden, with seven terraces of planting.
The romantic mixed-style planting on Arne Maynard’s Laurent-Perrier Bicentenary Garden was attracting admiring coos.
David Harber‘s beautifully-crafted sculptures and water features.
A ‘trompe l’oeil’ scene showing South African wild flowers, by Kirstenbosch.
The inspirational ‘Rooftop Workplace of Tomorrow’ makes use of vacant urban rooftop space to extend the office outdoors. Designed by Patricia Fox.
And several designers were invited to decorate an ‘Artisan’s Retreat’ in their own individual style. The summerhouses were all donated by The Malvern Collection. This one, above and below, is Orla Kiely’s vintage-inspired room.
The post-war look continues inside…
Kaffe Fassett’s ’Needlepoint Haven’ is an explosion of colour. We love the painted wellies !
A good workbench, natural light, tools close at hand, all feature in Vicki Conran’s Bookbinder’s Workshop.
Annabel Lewis of VV Rouleaux created a ’Passementerie Passion’ hideaway which houses her fantastic collection of ribbons and trims.
